Purple Dragon formed in June 1979 and disbanded in March of 1982 when bassist Todd Pederson formed a new band called Hellrazor. Purple Dragon recorded a three-song demo on August 12, 1981 at Entertainment Plus Studio in Edmonds, WA. This studio was owned by Doug Kennelly of Kennelly Keys Music. The Engineer working there was Steve Steer. Branom and Peterson were 16 years old, while drummer Peterson was 18.
Tim Branom: Vocals, Guitar
Todd Pederson: Bass (He would later play with Hellrazor starting in Summer of 1983)
Raymond Peterson: Drums (His sister, Carmel, fronted The Carmel Watters Band and the bassist was John Macko, later of Fifth Angel. The Carmel Watters Band would sign with CBS Records in 1985).
An interesting point is that Purple Dragon rehearsed less than 300 feet from a studio being built in Richmond Beach. There was a big hole in the side of the hill full of dirt. We watched in anticipation of what it would become. After a few years, it was called Star Trak Studios and then eventually Robert Lang Studios, where artists such as Linkin Park, Foo Fighters, Dave Matthews and Nirvana would record albums. Tim Branom brought Alice N' Chains to Star Trak Studios in 1986 to record keyboard tracks (performed by Ron Stokes) for their demo.
Purple Dragon played cover songs such as:
"Stranglehold" - Ted Nugent
"2112" - Rush
"Working Man" - Rush
"Tom Sawyer" - Rush
"Tyrant" - Judas Priest
"The Ripper" - Judas Priest
"Victim Of Changes" - Judas Priest
"The Green Manalishi" - Judas Priest
"Sinner" - Judas Priest
"Freebird" - Lynyrd Skynyrd
"Highway To Hell" - AC/DC
